Rémy Rioux, Chief Executive Officer of AFD and Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024, announced the signature of a cooperation agreement between AFD and Paris 2024 to initiate and support projects that combine sport and sustainable development in France and around the world. This collaboration attests to a common vision that sport is a real lever for social and societal change.

This commitment demonstrates Paris 2024's determination to organise Olympic Games aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations, while extending its strategy of legacy and sustainability in all areas (education, health, integration through sport, gender equality, disability, sport and peace).

Several concrete actions were announced on this day:

1) As of 2020, a group of 24 athletes, who have projects with a social and environmental impact in France and in the priority countries of French cooperation, will benefit from an entrepreneurship support programme. At least half of this first group will be made up of female athletes. Over the period 2020-2023, the French Development Agency will devote 700,000 euros to financing this scheme.

2) A call for projects will be launched from 2021 to 2023, for a total of 3 million euros, to finance projects in which sport is used for development. These projects may be led by local players in priority countries for French cooperation. Particular support will be given to projects aimed at promoting gender equality through sport, and those that contribute to better integration of people with disabilities through sport.

3) Local authorities with the "Terre de Jeux 2024" label that carry out decentralised cooperation projects in relation to sport will be able to apply for funding from the French Development Agency, within the framework of the FICOL funding tool.
