Icade and Egis, both subsidiaries of Caisse des Dépôts, are launching a company for re-use of building materials. Called Cycle Up, the initiative is supported by their common shareholder and is owned 50% / 50% by each company.
The Cycle Up project aims at connecting the various actors of construction and demolition sites (buyers, sellers, building contractors) to optimize the opportunities for re-using construction materials. The company will provide a digital marketplace, listing all available materials cataloged according to their potential for re-use. Starting in autumn 2017, Cycle Up will also provide a re-use consulting service, to help sellers and buyers make the most of their waste materials.
Egis, who is involved in the support of the bid committee for Paris 2024 Olympic Games, recommended Cycle Up for the construction of the Olympic Village in Saint-Denis, where the athletes will be housed (17,000 beds).
