Kering has been verified and approved by the Science Based Target (SBT) initiative today as the first luxury company, and first French company, to create science-based goals around reducing our carbon footprint. The SBT was formed by the Carbon Disclosure Project, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and the WWF to support companies in establishing science-based Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets so that business is part of the movement to ensure global warming does not exceed 2°C by 2050.
In line with SBT’s criteria, Kering has committed to reducing our emissions by 50% in scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3 (transportation and distribution, business flights, fuel and energy related emissions) of the GHG protocol by 2025, and to reducing an additional 40% our scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services.
As part of the next phase of Kering’s sustainability strategy, to be unveiled in January 2017, this target will be embedded in our Group’s new environmental pillar. Going beyond SBT criteria, we will also continue to measure and monetise carbon emissions alongside air and water pollution, water use, waste and land use across the entire supply chain all the way to where we source our raw materials via our Environmental Profit & Loss (EP&L).
