On December 6th, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the French Development Agency (AFD), Caisse des Dépôts and AFD signed the strategic alliance charter aimed at accompanying ecological transitions, social, territorial and digital.
For Pierre-René Lemas, CEO of Caisse des Dépôts, "the two institutions have common challenged: the Sustainable Development Objectives (SDGs) and the COP21 Agreements(...) We want to be even more at the initiative on the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement (...) Let's work together, we are a domestic development bank, the AFD is an international development bank, we will learn from each other, it is a true alliance, to do more and bette."
Different ways of pooling expertise are put in place within the framework of this alliance:
- the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement and the convergence of the two institutions' carbon footprint strategies
- the development of offers on smart cities that create innovative urban services in France and around the world
- digital deployment
- economic research and innovation (creation of a Development Lab at the AFD, supported by the Caisse des Dépôts)
This alliance will enable AFD to strengthen its territorial impact thanks to Caisse des Dépôts' links with its partners (companies, local authorities, etc…). In addition, the Caisse des Dépôts will be able to rely on AFD's assistance enabling it to become international.
Finally, in 2017 a joint investment vehicle will be created, focusing on financing infrastructure for sustainable development in developing countries.
